Terms of Service

Effective May 18, 2026

Draft for review. These Terms of Service are effective as of May 18, 2026. We recommend reviewing them with your legal counsel. Material changes are communicated at least 30 days in advance by email.

These terms govern your use of LegalPath (legalpath.ca). By creating an account or using our services, you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the service.

1. Who we are

LegalPath is a Canadian company that provides self-help legal forms, templates, and plain-English information about Canadian law. We are based in Edmonton, Alberta. We are not a law firm and we do not provide legal advice. See our Disclaimer for full details.

2. Your account

You must be at least 18 years old to create an account. You are responsible for keeping your password secure and for all activity under your account. Tell us immediately if you suspect unauthorized access by emailing hello@legalpath.ca.

3. What you can do with our forms

When you generate a document on LegalPath, you receive a perpetual, worldwide license to use that specific document for your personal or business purposes. You can edit it, print it, sign it, and file it.

You may NOT:

  • Resell our forms or templates as your own product.
  • Build a competing service using our content or wizard logic.
  • Distribute our forms in bulk to third parties (other than the parties to your specific transaction).
  • Reverse-engineer the wizards to extract our proprietary logic.

4. Pricing + payment

Pricing for individual forms, bundles, and subscription plans is shown on our pricing page. All prices are in Canadian dollars unless noted. Payment is processed by Stripe. You authorize us to charge your payment method for the products or subscription you select.

Refunds: Single forms are refundable within 14 days if you haven't downloaded the final PDF. Subscriptions can be cancelled any time and remain active until the end of the billing period. No prorated refunds for partial months.

5. Subscriptions

Pro Annual subscriptions auto-renew at the end of each annual term. You can cancel auto-renewal any time from your account dashboard. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current term, and you keep full access until then.

6. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Use the service for any unlawful purpose.
  • Submit false information into our wizards (this risks producing legally invalid documents).
  • Attempt to access other users' accounts or data.
  • Probe, scan, or test the vulnerability of our infrastructure.
  • Send automated traffic to our site without prior written permission.

7. AI assistant

Our AI assistant explains legal concepts in plain English. The assistant's answers are informational, not legal advice. The assistant may make mistakes. Verify important information against the actual provincial or federal Acts, or consult a lawyer.

8. No legal advice

Nothing on LegalPath constitutes legal advice. We do not have a lawyer-client relationship with you. Our forms are templates, not bespoke legal documents prepared for your specific situation. See our full Disclaimer.

9. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, LegalPath, its founders, employees, and contractors are not liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or punitive damages arising from your use of (or inability to use) the service, including but not limited to loss of profits, data, or business opportunities. Our total aggregate liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid LegalPath in the 12 months preceding the claim.

10. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold LegalPath harmless from any claim arising from your use of the service, your violation of these terms, or your violation of any law or third-party right.

11. Termination

You can close your account any time from your dashboard. We can suspend or terminate your account if you violate these terms. On termination, your access ends immediately, but documents you've already downloaded remain yours to use.

12. Changes

We may update these terms occasionally. If we make material changes, we'll notify you by email at least 30 days in advance. Continued use after the effective date means you accept the updated terms.

13. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Alberta and the laws of Canada applicable in Alberta. Any dispute will be resolved in the courts of Alberta, except where applicable consumer protection law gives you the right to file in your home jurisdiction.
